Cairo International Airport carried out an environmental emergency drill simulating a fuel spill incident, with participation from security, civil defense, traffic police, ambulance services, health quarantine teams, and operations departments from various ministries.

The drill simulated a collision between a fuel tanker and an empty tourist bus at the intersection of Terminal 2’s access road and the multi-story parking road. The scenario involved jet fuel leaking from the tanker.

Emergency measures were immediately activated, including closing intersecting roads and redirecting traffic to alternative routes to ensure public safety, deploying first responders from the airport’s Environmental Management Department to assess pollution levels and contain the fuel spill and erecting barriers to prevent fuel from seeping into nearby drainage systems.

Magdy Ishaq, Chairman of Cairo Airport Company, highlighted the importance of such drills in enhancing emergency preparedness and crisis management capabilities. He emphasised the role of these exercises in promoting environmental protection and sustainable development within the aviation sector.
