The Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture (MACIC) under the auspices of the Embassy of India in Cairo recently organised the 28th edition of the prestigious “Glimpses of India” painting competition for Egyptian schoolchildren. Held from October 20 to November 13, 2024, the competition reached young artists across 17 governorates of Egypt, including Cairo, Giza, Qalioubiya, Gharbiya, Sharqiya, Red Sea, Alexandria, Menoufiya, Bani Suef, Fayoum, Kafr Elsheikh, Beheira, Port Said, Ismailia, Aswan, Luxor, and Minya. In collaboration with Egypt’s Ministry of Education, the competition saw the enthusiastic participation of approximately 22,572 students from 1,427 schools. The young artists, inspired by India’s vibrant cultural heritage, showcased their creativity through paintings reflecting various aspects of India’s history, art, and traditions. This remarkable level of participation underscores the growing cultural exchange between India and Egypt, fostering deeper people-to-people connections. The “Glimpses of India” competition offers Egyptian schoolchildren a unique platform to explore their artistic talents while gaining insight into the rich cultural tapestry of India. Beyond being a mere contest, this annual initiative has become a symbol of cultural diplomacy, strengthening ties between the two nations. The competition has been successfully organised by the Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture in Cairo for the past 28 years, bringing together students from across Egypt to celebrate India’s art and culture.A prize distribution ceremony will be held by the Embassy of India to honour the winners, with awards presented in various categories for each governorate. The winners will be selected by a distinguished jury comprising the Art Education Advisor and two other renowned artists. This initiative continues to be a testament to the growing cultural collaboration between Egypt and India, creating lasting memories and a platform for young talents to shine.
