CAIRO – Egyptian Planning and International Co-operation Minister Rania Mashat said human development is one of the key pillars serving economic development.

She highlighted the role of financing and bridging the gap of financing which is widening, especially in developing countries.

She made the remarks during her participation via video conference in the session on Financing for Human Development, held on the third day of the Global Congress on Population, Health and Human Development (PHDC’ 24) in Cairo.

Mashat said developing countries face many challenges that affect their development, noting that international organisations have a major role to realize balance in the financing gap and meet the development needs of developing countries.

She stressed that Egypt allocates 42% of its budget to major domains, like health, education, etc.

She noted that Egypt launched several development projects and programs, including Takaful and Karam projects.

She said the government seeks encouraging the private sector’s contribution to financing national projects.

She noted that the state is engaged in programmes with major international organizations focusing on key development elements, such as education, health and Decent Life project.

She expounded that Decent Life project contributed to extending many services to many villages in deprived areas.

She referred also to a school children nutrition program being implemented in collaboration with the World Food Programme.

She highlighted the importance of building confidence between the state and local and international partners.
