CAIRO/PARIS – Khaled el-Enany, Egypt’s candidate for the position of Director General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), attended several meetings during his visit to Paris, where he took part in the 19th Francophonie summit as a member of Egypt’s delegation.

Enany’s latest activities fall within the framework of promotional effort by the Egyptian embassy in Paris to support the Egyptian candidate for the UNESCO term 2025-2029.

Enany met French President Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of the Francophonie summit with Macron hailing the Egyptian candidate’s competent experience.

The French president praised setting up a branch for the French University of Senghor in Borg al Arab city, Alexanderia governorate.

Enany also met head of delegations of the UAE, Korea, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Serbia.

Egypt’s UNESCO top post candidate gave several interviews to French and international media outlets, on the fringe of the summit.

In April 2023, Egypt announced the nomination of Professor Enany for the prestigious UNESCO position.

In February, the Executive Council of the African Union (AU) announced its endorsement of Anany’s candidacy.

In May, the 33rd Arab Summit declared endorsement of Enany for the top UNESCO post.

The election for UNESCO’s top position is scheduled to take place during the last quarter of 2025.
