MUNICH — Egypt forward Omar Marmoush scored two goals and laid on two more as Eintracht Frankfurt won 4-2 at promoted Holstein Kiel in the Bundesliga.
With his brace, Marmoush has climbed to the top of the Bundesliga’s scoring chart with six goals in five matches, surpassing Bayern Munich’s star striker Harry Kane by one goal.
Frankfurt twice took the lead inside the opening hour but was pegged back on both occasions by goals from Kiel’s Japanese forward Shuto Machino, AFP reported.
The 25-year-old then scored and assisted again in the last 30 minutes to take his side to outright second in the table, a point behind Bayern Munich, who travel to Frankfurt next weekend.
Frankfurt’s first goal was a stunning solo effort from the in-form Marmoush, who collected the ball in his own half and dribbled all the way before slamming in at the near post.
After Machino equalised from the spot, the Egyptian then laid on an inch-perfect corner for Igor Matanovic to head Frankfurt back in front two minutes into the second half.
Machino blasted in again on 50 minutes, collecting a rebound from a corner.
Marmoush was again decisive as Frankfurt reclaimed the lead five minutes after the hour when he latched onto a failed Kiel clearance to slam in his second from the left side of the box.
Then with 16 minutes remaining, Marmoush sealed the result by coming in from the right flank and cutting a pass to Tuta, who tapped in from close range.
Marmoush made a notable switch to Frankfurt in the summer of 2023, joining from Wolfsburg on a free transfer.
Elsewhere, Bayern Munich star Harry Kane´s left ankle injury is not as serious as initially feared, the Bundesliga club said.
“Examinations by the club´s medical unit determined a positive development,” the Bavarian powerhouse said according to AP.
“Kane will continue to receive appropriate treatment.”
The club did not say whether Kane will be fit for Bayern´s visit to Aston Villa in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.
The 31-year-old forward limped off the field late in Bayern´s 1-1 draw with Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga on Saturday after getting a knock to the ankle in a tussle for the ball with Leverkusen´s Amine Adli.
Kane failed to have a shot at goal against Leverkusen but has been instrumental in Bayern´s attack again this season.
He scored five goals and set up six more in the first four league games, while scoring four goals in the 9-2 win over Dinamo Zagreb in the club’s opening Champions League game.
He also scored in Bayern´s opening German Cup match. Bayern sporting director Max Eberl said “when Harry leaves the field it means something because he’s pretty tough.
“(The incident) doesn’t look good, but we hope he’s made out of good English wood and nothing’s broken.”
Kane has been in great form for Bayern this season.
He has scored 10 goals in seven games in all competitions, including hitting four in Bayern’s Champions League opener against Dinamo Zagreb.
Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany said it was “too early” to know the extent of Kane’s injury but he was hopeful the forward will be fit for Wednesday’s Champions League clash at Aston Villa.
“I don’t have the exact information but hopefully it’s just a bit of pain and we’ll get him back this week,” said Kompany.
“Hopefully not,” Kompany said when asked if Kane’s injury was serious.
The England captain has a history of ankle complaints but has only missed two matches for Bayern with injury since arriving in the summer of 2023.
Bayern sporting director Max Eberl said he was unsure about Kane’s injury status, but added “when Harry leaves the field means something because he’s pretty tough”.
“(The incident) doesn’t look good, but we hope he’s made strong out of good English wood and nothing’s broken.”
Kane did not have a shot on target in the match but has been in strong form so far for Bayern this season.
