The Airports Council International (ACI) has forecasted a 10 per cent growth in global passenger traffic in 2024, with the number of travelers expected to reach 9.5 billion.

This projection was revealed in ACI’s Annual World Airport Traffic Report 2024, which draws on data from more than 2,700 airports in over 180 countries and regions. Justin Urquhart, ACI’s Director General, highlighted the report’s insights into the aviation industry’s resilience and adaptability, emphasising the council’s ability to predict and analyse industry trends accurately.

The report noted that global passenger traffic in 2023 totalled 8.7 billion, marking a 30.6 per cent increase compared to 2022, with a recovery rate of 95 per cent compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019. Projections for 2024 suggest that passenger traffic will reach 104 per cent of 2019 levels.

ACI also expects international passenger numbers to hit 4.1 billion by the end of 2024, accounting for 43 per cent of total traffic, while domestic passenger traffic is forecasted to reach 5.4 billion, making up 57 per cent of global passenger movement.
