CAIRO/BEIRUT – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty had a meeting on Friday with Lebanese House Speaker Nabih Berri to discuss efforts to stop further escalation in the region.
Posting on his “X” account, Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid asserted Egypt’s unflagging support for Lebanon during the current critical circumstances.
The meeting aimed at holding consultations on efforts exerted to reach a truce and stop the rapid escalation, the spokesman added.
The security and stability of Lebanon is in the interest of Egypt and the Arab countries, affirmed the foreign minister during a press conference held Friday on the sidelines of his visit to Lebanon.
He, meanwhile, said that his Lebanon’s visit – which came as per directives issued by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi – aims to support Lebanon’s government, leadership and people.
He further affirmed Egypt’s condemnations of all the provocative policies, including breaching Lebanon’s sovereignty.
The aggression on the southern suburbs of Beirut is totally unacceptable, he went on to say.
Egypt exerts utmost efforts to deescalate the situation in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip, he added.
Egypt will spare no effort to reach a ceasefire deal, which is the main path to end escalation and reduce tensions, affirmed the minister.
