One person was killed and 8 others were injured as two transport vehicles, seven private cars and a microbus collided on the Middle Ring Road. Three of the collided cars burst onto fire.
Firefighting vehicles and ambulances were rushed to the site of the accident to control the situation and transfer the injured to the nearest hospitals, a statement by Cairo Traffic Department said.
It added that Major General Moamen Saeed, Assistant Minister of Interior and Director of the General Traffic Department, arrived at the scene to oversee rescue efforts.
Also teams of the General Directorate of Traffic, General Department of Civil Protection and Cairo Traffic Department moved to the site to find out the cause of the accident, remove the debris and return traffic to normal.
