Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy met on Monday Gennaro Sangiuliano, the Minister of Culture and Antiquities of Italy, and Ambassador Maurizio Massari at the ministry headquarters in the New Administrative Capital. The meeting aimed to discuss bolstering strategic cooperation between Egypt and Italy in the field of antiquities.

During the meeting, which is part of the Italian Minister’s brief visit to Egypt, Minister Fathy highlighted the long-standing relationship between the two countries. He underlined Egypt’s commitment to leveraging these historical ties to serve both nations’ interests.

The discussion highlighted the fruitful collaboration in various archaeological projects, emphasising the role of culture and antiquities in fostering connections between peoples and nations.

Minister Sangiuliano expressed the desire to increase the number of Italian archaeological missions in Egypt and collaborate on heritage preservation. The meeting also explored potential joint projects in restoration, training, and digital preservation of Egyptian antiquities.

Plans for temporary exhibitions in Italy next year, the inclusion of Egyptian sites on the UNESCO World Heritage List, and development initiatives in Alamein were also deliberated.

Minister Fathy extended an invitation for the Italian delegation to explore investment opportunities in Egypt, particularly in the boutique hotel sector, underscoring the potential for mutually beneficial partnerships.
