CAIRO – Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty warned on Thursday from the risk of expanding the conflict, asserting the necessity of working to achieve ceasefire in Gaza and resume the peace process.

During a phone call the foreign minister received from Irish Foreign Minister Micheál Martin who greeted the foreign minister on his new post, Abdelatty asserted looking forward to coordinating with the Irish side in the coming period to boost bilateral relations and consult on regional and international issues of mutual interest, especially issues of the Middle East in light of the positive stances of Ireland topped by its stance towards the Palestinian cause, Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid said.

Abdelatty accentuated keenness on promoting bilateral co-operation in all its tracks to reflect distinguished political ties between both countries, especially that there are promising potentials in a number of sectors topped by renewable energy, the spokesman said.

This comes within the framework of keenness on boosting trade cooperation between both countries and promoting Egyptian exports to Ireland, the spokesman added.

Abdelatty lauded the Irish stance towards the Palestinian cause after its recognition of the Palestinian state.

Meanwhile, Martin lauded the Egyptian-Irish ties, as well as Ireland’s full support to the development track witnessed in Egypt, in addition to the commitment of his country to economic and investment co-operation with Egypt.

He expressed deep concern that the conflict increases in the region due to the current escalation in Lebanon.

He asserted Irish support to the pivotal and important role of the UNRWA.

Both ministers agreed on consultations and coordination to discuss means to find solutions to escalating crises, asserting the importance of boosting bilateral ties for the interest of the Egyptians and Irish people.
