NEW YORK – The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) confirmed the displacement of at least 60,000 people from areas east of Gaza City, covering an area of 7 square kilometers, the UN Information Centre reported on Monday.
A statement released by OCHA stated that “The Israeli military operation in the Mawasi area has resulted in the displacement of at least 5,000 people,” emphasising that insecurity and ongoing hostilities significantly hinder the provision of essential humanitarian aid and services across Gaza. This includes vital food and nutrition assistance, medical care, shelter support, and water, sanitation, and hygiene services for hundreds of thousands of people in need, added the statement.
OCHA clarified that Israeli authorities have allowed only half of the planned humanitarian aid to reach northern Gaza, while the rest of the humanitarian missions have either been obstructed, prevented from reaching the area, or canceled due to logistical, operational, or security reasons.
