The Arab Organisation for Dialogue and International Co-operation recently hosted the 55th session of the Dr Hanan Youssef Cultural Salon, titled “Discourses on Self-Reformation: Messages and Tools.”
The event brought together prominent figures in Egyptian and Arab society, including officials, academics, and cultural specialists.
Professor Dr Hanan Youssef, founder of the salon and a renowned scholar of international media, opened the session by emphasising the critical role of self-reformation in driving societal progress.
She highlighted the importance of this concept, particularly in light of the social and psychological challenges facing the Arab world today.
The salon featured presentations by a diverse range of experts in media and culture. Discussions focused on the psychological obstacles hindering self-improvement, with some attendees noting the tendency to prioritise personal interests over collective values.
Major General Tariq Al-Mahdi, former Minister of Information, spoke on the crucial influence of media, family, religious institutions, and community organizations in shaping values conducive to personal refinement. He emphasized the importance of fostering good morals that align with religious principles and contribute to societal development.
Dr Imad el-Banani, President of the Egyptian Sports for All Federation, further underscored the transformative potential of sports and culture. He described these activities as powerful tools for soul-searching, societal advancement, and promoting cooperation, tolerance, and active participation.
The salon management, led by Dr Youssef, announced the launch of a new initiative titled “Make Your Image… Reform Yourself.” This program aims to support self-improvement through media training, awareness campaigns, and psychological workshops delivered across various platforms. The initiative will leverage the expertise of mental health professionals and guide participants towards building a positive self-image as a product of self-reformation. The program will be implemented in collaboration with both government and non-governmental organizations.
The event concluded with a musical performance by Nada al-Mansi, a young artist and member of the salon.
The session garnered wide acclaim from participants for its insightful discussions on self-improvement and its impact on individuals and societies as a whole.
