Egypt’s Minister of Social Solidarity Nevine el-Qabbag on Wednesday met with Dr. Ahmed Taha, who is president of the General Authority for Healthcare Accreditation and Regulation, for co-operation talks.

During the meeting, the minister reviewed the health entities affiliated with civil society organisations that employ about 5,000 doctors and 9,000 nursing teams, including about 242 hospitals, 154 health centers and clinics, 2,800 residence rooms, and 270 Operating rooms, 530 dialysis rooms, 1,500 nurseries, 160 emergency rooms, and a thousand ventilators. The number of beneficiaries of medical services in general has reached about 3.5 million citizens.

The Minister confirmed that health institutions in civil society associations are supported whether from the Ministry of Social Solidarity or from Nasser Social Bank, noting that the ultimate goal of all partners concerned is to support the simple citizen in obtaining convenient and good service.

El-Qabbag added that her ministry is implementing a programme parallel to the conditional cash support programme Solidarity and Dignity.

Children are also supported through the First 1000 Days of Their Lives programme, where the ministry pays for additional food packages to be added to food support cards for mothers who attend health and nutrition awareness sessions and who undergo periodic check-ups.

The ministry also works in co-operation with relevant government and civil society organisations on reproductive health and family planning services through the Two are Enough clinics, in addition to counselling sessions for young people who about marry and to newlyweds through the Mawadda programme.

For his part, Dr Taha said the comprehensive health insurance system is a national project adopted by Egypt to reform the health system, and that its philosophy is based on achieving standards of quality health care and social solidarity for all segments of society without discrimination.
