Nestlé Egypt celebrates 30 years of its 6 October Factory 13 - Egyptian Gazette

Nestlé products have been available in Egypt through importers since 1870, and with the availability of an encouraging climate for investment in Egypt, the company began operating its first factory in Egypt in 1991, and today, Nestlé Egypt is a pivotal centre for the region Middle East and North Africa, with its headquarters in Cairo. Through direct employment, it employs nearly 3,500 employees all of whom are committed to the company’s mission of “enhancing the quality of life and contributing to a healthier future.” In addition, the company contributes to providing indirect job opportunities for more than 8000 people in Egypt.

Chairman and CEO of Nestlé Egypt, Mr. Moataz El Hout commented, “We are always proud with what Nestlé deliver to the Egyptian market, this is evident through our products, which prioritize human nutrition, and through our ongoing investments in the country. With constant growing demand for the wide range of Nestlé’s products, we are determined to continuously invest to meet such demand and innovate to ensure our consumers are receiving the necessary nutrition.”

He added, “The new production lines for MAGGI, which included a line for the production of culinary and a line for MAGGI Mixes and soups, were inaugurated today in the presence of His Excellency Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly and Her Excellency Minister of Trade and Industry Dr. Nevine Gamea as a reflection of the government’s extent of support in encouraging investment and industry in Egypt through all of its agencies. These new lines are part of Nestlé Egypt’s investment strategy, which will see EGP 700 million invested from 2021 to 2025. This year, EGP 100 million of this investment has already been directed to Maggi production lines to ensure maximum quantity and efficiency. The remaining investment will be invested in renovating production lines, child nutrition products, Nido and confectionery products.”

Driven from their commitment towards safeguarding the planet and prioritizing a cleaner environment, Nestlé Egypt has also ensured that appropriate environmental practices are being implemented throughout its factory. This is evident through the efficient usage of resources such as switching all lighting to LED lighting which in turn saves up to 830 GJ/ year of electricity and 29.6 tonnes of CO2 emission, and using air compressor optimizers which saves up to 1447 GJ/ year of energy and reduces 51.7 tonnes of CO2 emission.

The factory has also optimized plastic consumption by reducing any unnecessary plastics throughout the packaging process and has installed a wastewater treatment plant to ensure that the water used is re-purposed for irrigation.

Nestlé Egypt’s 6 October factory, which started operations in 1991, is now home to over 46 production lines for filling, packaging and mixing. The total number of workers exceed 1200 employee, and the total volume of production has also increased reaching a total of 50 thousand tonnes a year. The factory produces a wide-range of Nestlé products catering to Egyptian families such as, MAGGI, Nescafe, NIDO, Cerelac, Fitness Toasties and other products.
