Egyptian Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation el-Sayyed el-Qoseir on Wednesday with Amgad el-Maghrabi, Managing Director of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Applied Knowledge Company for Research and Services, one of the entities affiliated with the Armed Forces Engineering Authority, to discuss enhancing applications of innovation and technology programmes for agriculture.
The meeting reviewed the applications of modern green technology in various agricultural fields (ultra-low-frequency bio-resonance pulse technology to detect and combat pathogens and agricultural pests without the use of pesticides or chemicals) and how to benefit from the technological revolution in supporting the agricultural sector and its related activities.
Developing agriculture has become a top priority as farming has witnessed unprecedented achievements during the era of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi due to its importance in food security, which is part of national security, the minister said.
Therefore, Egypt has adopted the principle of applied research as an effective solution to increase productivity, enhance food security, and maximise the benefit from the land and water resources in light of the rapid population increase. The Minister added that applied scientific research will solve problems, el-Qoseir said.
The minister also reviewed the priorities of the next phase, which should be the focus of attention of researchers, technology platforms, and entrepreneurship companies to maximise the use of limited agricultural resources, increase productivity, and use modern technological techniques in early diagnosis and combating plant and animal diseases and pests, as well as confronting soil salinity, drought, degradation, desertification, and other challenges facing agricultural production and related activities in Egypt.
He also stressed the importance of expanding the use of this green technology on the largest scale and overcoming all obstacles to increase benefit from it, especially at the level of small farmers and exporters.
