Egypt’s trade deficit ups 17.8% in December: CAPMAS 1 - Egyptian Gazette

CAIRO – Egypt’s trade deficit increased by 17.8 % to reach dlrs 3.03 billion in December 2023, compared with dlrs 2.57 billion in the same month in 2022, according to data released by the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) said Monday.

Egyptian exports’ value dropped by 23 per cent to reach dlrs 3.48 billion in December 2023, against dlrs 4.52 billion in the same month of 2022.

While, the imports value slashed to dlrs 6.51 billion, down by 8.2% in December 2023, compared to the same month of 2022 that hit dlrs 7.09 billion, according to the statement.

The imports, which witnessed a drop in the value, included chemicals (organic and inorganic) by 8.2%, plastics in primary forms by 17.2%, soybeans by 14.7%, wood and its products by 40.5%.
