CAIRO – President Abdel Fattah El Sisi performed Friday prayers at Field Marshal Tantawi Mosque in New Cairo’s at Fifth Settlement district on the occasion of the 54th anniversary of “Martyr’s Day.”
El Sayyed Abdel Bari, a scholar from the Awqaf Ministry delivered a sermon on the “Martyr’s Day And The History Of Great Martyrs.”
Attending the prayers were Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, Minister of Defense and Military Production Mohamed Zaki, Al Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed el Tayyeb, Minister of Interior Mahmud Tawfik, Awqaf Minister Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa and Cairo Governor Khaled Abdel Aal.
Every year, Egypt and the Armed Forces mark the Veteran Warrior and Martyr’s Day on the 9th of March, the same day in 1969 that witnessed the death of former army chief of staff Abdel-Moneim Riad Lieutenant General Abdel-Moneim Riad, who sacrificed his life for the sake of safeguarding homeland.
