The Information Centre of the National Food Safety Authority issued its sixth weekly report in 2024 for the period from February 3 to 9, which includes many different activities.

The General Administration of Factories Control carried out 89 supervisory missions on food factories in all governorates during the last week.

Four food facilities were registered with the National Food Safety Authority, and six factories are currently listed on the white list.

Examination, inspection, and accreditation visits by the Department of Control of Packing Stations and Centres reached 66; 1 establishment was registered; 1 facility is currently listed on the white list; and 3711 export permits were issued to agricultural crops.

Potatoes have topped the list of exported Egyptian vegetables by 33,000 tons, followed by beans and sweet potatoes with 6,000 tons each, and citrus fruits topped the list of exported fruits last week with a total of 81,000 tons, followed by strawberries and various fruits with a total of 8,000 and 3,000 tons, respectively.

The total number of exported fruits reached 38 types and 72 types of vegetables.

Saudi Arabia, Libya, Sudan, and Italy represented the largest recipients of Egyptian exports over the past week out of a total of 134 importing countries.

The General Administration for Registration and Licensing of Private Food registered 53 products and 4 companies, carried out 7 supervisory visits, examined 730 new products, and issued 8 free sale certificates.

With regard to Laboratory Management, the department prepared technical reports for 1365 samples of imported food shipments, 850 samples of food for export, and 113 samples of special food products.

The complaints management team launched campaigns at the 633 food facility to ensure the safety of the food products offered in a number of governorates.

The General Department of Slaughterhouses conducted 10 inspection visits to poultry and meat slaughterhouses, in addition to issuing 64 permissions to natural envelope factories. The administration issued 19 export permits for natural animal packaging to European Union countries after collecting samples and ensuring their compliance with requirements.

Also, NFSA has participated in an inspection with a delegation from the Ministry of Local Development and the Directorate of Veterinary Medicine to check Damietta and Safaga slaughterhouses.

The food safety branch in Gharbia, Monufia, Damietta, Faiyum, Al-Sharqia, Assiut, Dakahlia, Sohag, Beni Suief, Beheira governorates, and 10th of Rammadan City launched extensive inspection campaigns to ensure the implementation of food safety requirements.

This came as part of the efforts of the directives of Dr Tareq el Hobi, Chairman of the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA), to tighten the control over food establishments to ensure the safety of the food products offered and to preserve the health of consumers in various governorates.
