BRUSSELS – Egypt’s Minister of International Cooperation Rania al Mashat said digitization and digital transformation solutions are part and parcel of investments in digital infrastructure, paving the way for transition towards digital economy that directly contributes to enhancing development efforts.

The minister of international cooperation highlighted the Egyptian government’s keenness on promoting expansion of digital services, together with developing secure infrastructure through legislative frameworks.

During a meeting with European Commissioner for Digital Transformation Margrethe Vestager – as part of the participation of the minister of international cooperation in the activities of the Egypt-EU Association Council – the minister stressed the importance of stimulating efforts to empower the private sector and increase its role in achieving development and building a competitive and sustainable economy.

The meeting came in light of the role assigned to the Ministry of International Cooperation to enhance economic relations with countries and regional and international organizations to support the state’s development efforts.

Mashat pointed out to the importance and depth of Egyptian-European strategic relations extending over decades, along with the state’s interest in further developing relations to meet development priorities, confront economic challenges and enhances climate action.

She also reviewed the most prominent successful projects in the field of digital transformation that were co-implemented with the European work team, including a project to support e-government and innovation in public administration, with a grant worth 17.5 million euros.

At the end of the meeting, the Egyptian minister extended the invitation to the European commissioner for digital transformation to visit Egypt and inspect emerging companies in the digital transformation field.

For her part, the European Union (EU) official confirmed that digital transformation is among the EU’s cooperation priorities, due to its significant importance in enhancing all fields and achieving prosperity and development for people, especially that it incorporates a number of sectors, including green transformation, energy, development, as well as human capabilities.(MENA)
