Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Cairo on Thursday to discuss the latest developments in the Middle East, including the recent escalation of violence in the Gaza Strip.

Blinken conveyed the greetings and appreciation of U.S. President Joe Biden to President Sisi, praising Egypt’s ongoing efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region and promote peace and stability.

President Sisi thanked Blinken for his remarks and reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to continue coordination with the United States to maintain regional security and stability.

President Sisi and Secretary Blinken discussed the regional situation, with a particular focus on Gaza and the Palestinian territories. Blinken briefed President Sisi on the results of his tour of the region and listened to Egypt’s vision for a solution to the conflict.

President Sisi stressed the need for the international community to assume its responsibilities to implement relevant UN resolutions, ensuring that relief aid reaches Gaza in sufficient quantities to alleviate the humanitarian crisis and save the people of Gaza from the immense suffering they are experiencing. He also underscored the need for concerted efforts to de-escalate tensions and achieve a just and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian issue. A settlement that addresses the root causes of the current situation, enables the Palestinian people to obtain their legitimate rights, and achieves security, development, and prosperity for all the peoples of the region.

The two sides agreed to continue intensive consultations on the current situation and to engage with various parties to advance efforts to de-escalate tensions and prevent the expansion of the conflict. They also reaffirmed their complete rejection of any attempts to displace Palestinians from their lands and their commitment to the two-state solution as the basis for achieving stability in the region.
