Minister of Social Solidarity Nevine el-Qabbag and Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad witnessed on Thursday  the launch of the national ‘UniGreen Climate Change’ competition, with funding from the European Union. The UniGreen Climate Change competition is led by Life Makers Foundation and the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport in collaboration with Samsung, Nile University and governmental partnerships and facilitated by Nilepreneurs.

The “UniGreen” competition aims to enhance innovation among young people and encourage positive interaction with climate change issues as a strategic step towards achieving the sustainable development goals and Egypt’s Vision 2030.

It also aims at changing the climate narrative and taking its participants into an eco-adventure. UniGreen is not just a project; it’s a movement to empower Egyptian youth to unleash their creativity and tackle climate change like never before.

Addressing the event, Minister Qabbag stressed that climate change has severe negative impacts on human life and there should be decisive actions to mitigate their repercussions as climate change causes water scarcity, air pollution, and food insecurity. She noted that climate change directly contributes to the violation of human rights and also affects sustainable development goals.

The project fosters collaboration among universities, the private sector, community organisations, and the government. UniGreen supports youth-led entrepreneurial solutions with technical and financial aid, aiming to enlarge their role in climate change mitigation. Through policy advocacy and community-based learning, interested youth contribute recommendations.
