Egyptian airports witnessed a revolution in infrastructure and development projects in 2023 under the leadership of Team Pilot Mohamed Abbas. The Holding Company for Airports and Air Navigation, headed by Engineer Mohamed Saeed Mahrous and the Egyptian Airports Company, headed by Pilot Ahmed Mansour, have achieved a leap in the services provided to passengers and increased air traffic and tourism to Egypt with the aim of reaching 30 million tourists annually according to the future state plan.

Cairo International Airport, under the leadership of accountant Magdy Eshaq, chairman of the board of directors of Cairo Airport Company, started operating the electric walkway project. The walkway includes two gathering areas, one at the multi-story garage and the other at the passenger building 2, in addition to 5 service areas distributed along the walkway.

 

The HUB area includes commercial and service areas, cafes and restrooms. It was also equipped with “self-service and golf carts” that were specially supplied for the project. The walkway is fully air-conditioned for the comfort of passengers and is equipped with the latest technological systems, including surveillance cameras, flight display screens, Internet service and fire protection systems.

As for the multi-story garage project, which is one of the development projects at Cairo International Airport, its capacity reaches more than 2,500 cars with an area of 18,000 square metres after five floors and ten elevators fully operational. The garage was also upgraded by carrying out painting work, beautifying the floors, upgrading the restrooms and equipping the garage with LED lighting, ventilation, drainage, updating the car guidance system by numbering the columns and developing networks and fire extinguishing systems.

In addition, the garage is equipped with a front waiting area to serve approximately 100 buses and minibuses. The solar power plant project was also completed above the garage in co-operation with the Ministry of Environment, which produces 300 kilowatts of solar energy, provides 600 thousand annually to Cairo Airport Company, noting that the cost of building the station is 3.5 million and serves lighting roads and buildings.

The safety and quality sector at Cairo Airport Company has been tasked with obtaining the Safety and Public Health Readiness Certificate from the Airports Council International (ACI) for three years. The programme aims to prepare for health and safety in airports and to support airport operators by providing effective public health management measures and strategies for planning future events.

As for Sphinx International Airport, it was operated after its development and increased capacity to 1.2 million passengers annually. It is one of the most important new airports. The Secretary-General of the International Airports Council for Africa visited the airport and praised its development.

He expressed his happiness to have the opportunity to visit Sphinx International Airport, which has quickly become a central hub connecting passengers to the famous archaeological sites in Egypt.

The official page of the International Airports Council for Africa praised Sphinx International Airport, describing it as “achieving excellence in the world of aviation and located just steps from the legendary Giza Pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum,” in addition to “commitment to sustainable development procedures and environmental protection.”

The total area of Sphinx Airport is 24,000 square metres, and it includes two passenger halls with a capacity of 1,200 passengers per hour. It includes 10 arrival counters, 10 departure counters, 3 baggage belts, a hall for travel and another for arrival for VIPs, 6 counters for airlines, an inquiry counter, 16 elevators, 8 escalators, 4 passenger boarding bridges serving 4 aircraft, 12 payment gates, and 2 self-booking systems and a waiting area that can accommodate 400 cars and 20 buses, as well as offices of airlines, a mosque, offices of tourism companies, a bank area, quarantine offices, commercial stores, a duty-free market outlet for Egypt Air and cafes.

As for Borg El Arab Airport, its efficiency was upgraded and the construction of the first new environmentally friendly building is expected to be opened in June. Sharm El Sheikh Airport was also developed to increase its capacity to 10 million passengers annually.
