CAIRO – The Arab Summit, which will be held in Riyadh on Saturday, comes at a critical timing where several urgent messages will be addressed to the world, diplomats told MENA on Friday.

Former assistant foreign minister, Hussein Hassona, said the summit will prove the unity of Arabs to face the Israeli plots aiming at liquidating the Palestinian cause.

For his part, former assistant foreign minister, Adel El Salosi, stressed that the Riyadh summit is set to be a historic event since it will be held at a significant stage of the Arab-Israeli conflict.

Former assistant foreign minister, Gamal Baiomy, said Arab peoples expect that the summit will present all possible means to support and defend the Palestinian cause.

For his part, former assistant foreign minister, Salah Halima, said the summit is set to discuss security, humanitarian and political aspects of the Palestinian cause.

Arab foreign ministers convened Thursday to prepare for the urgent Arab summit in Riyadh at the level of foreign ministers upon a request from Palestine and Saudi Arabia.

The meeting, led by Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan, was attended by Arab ministerial delegations and Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Abul Gheit to discuss means of halting Israeli aggression on Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

The draft resolution, expected to be issued at the end of the summit will reflect Arab stance concerning the Israeli war on Palestinian people, Assistant Secretary-General of the AL Hossam Zaki said, adding that it will set the scene for the upcoming Arab move at the international level, within efforts to stop the Israeli aggression, support Palestine and its people, condemn occupation and bring it to accountability.
