Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Monday warned of the risks of expanding the scale of conflict in the Gaza Strip and spreading of violence to other areas, a matter that poses a threat to the stability in the region and risks unpredictable consequences.
Shoukry made the remarks during a phone call he received from Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, according to Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zied.
They exchanged views regarding the deteriorated humanitarian situation in the Gaz Strip as well as the paths of alleviating the suffering of the Palestinians amid the ongoing Israeli shelling, the spokesman said.
The Iranian foreign minister expressed gratitude for Egypt’s role in securing humanitarian assistance to civilians in the Gaza Strip.
Meanwhile, Shoukry and Abdollahian underscored the necessity of coordinating efforts at both the regional and international levels, with a view to ensuring sustained and safe delivery of humanitarian and relief aid to the enclave.
Shoukry briefed Abdollahian on the outcomes of the Cairo Peace Summit which is deemed to be the first collective effort of regional and international parties to find solutions for ceasing the escalation in Gaza.
