Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has called for continued flow of medical, humanitarian aid to Gaza, to help 2.3 million Palestinians in the Strip.

During talks held on Friday with visiting British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Sisi said: “We all must take action in order to contain deteriorations that may be uncontrollable in the region,” adding, “Their repercussions go beyond the right to self-defense, which we always talk about.”

He further said: “There are about 4,000 civilians killed in the Gaza Strip, including 1,500 children… and we all need to take action to contain this matter so that the fighting does not cause the death of more civilians.”

Sisi appreciated efforts made by US President Joe Biden and Britain to persuade Israel to allow the opening of the Rafah crossing for aid to the Gaza Strip.

He pointed out that there is a need for coordination and cooperation in order to prevent sliding into a war in the entire region, which would have a devastating impact on the region and on peace in it.

He pointed out that there was a need to learn a lesson to revive the peace process and give hope to the Palestinians to establish their Palestinian state on the June 1967 borders with al-Quds (East Jerusalem) as its capital.

“I note here your understanding of the importance of not allowing the exodus of civilians from Gaza to Sinai,” said Sisi, adding, “It is an extremely dangerous matter and may completely end the Palestinian issue, and this is something we are keen to prevent.”

For his part, Sunak praised efforts of Sisi on Gaza Strip in specific, and the Palestinian issue, in general, calling for constant contacts between partners in such significant circumstances.

Britain believes in the necessity of delivering humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people, he said, noting Egypt deserves all thanks for its strenuous efforts in this regard.
