A qualitative leap is achieved by Egyptian airports during the current period, thanks to the continuous tours carried out by the Supreme Committee for Security and Environmental Inspection at airports headed by Deputy Minister of Civil Aviation Montasser Manna.
Manna, accompanied by members of the committee, had made an inspection tour at Sharm El-Sheikh International Airport, which has increased in popularity in the recent period after the increase in the number of incoming tourist flights to the Sinai Peninsula.
During the tour, Manna was briefed on the causes of overcrowding at the airport and ordered some modifications to be made to avoid overcrowding, including the expansion of the travel procedures hall to accommodate 800 seats instead of 440 passengers, meaning nine passengers on two planes.
This comes in addition to placing a zigzag road to prevent passengers from overcrowding, similar to other airports around the world.
A total of 6 x-ray machines were operated instead of two and 24 counters instead of 12. The passport officers were also increased and all this was done in coordination with the Russian side.
This comes as well as reducing the time period for the presence of passengers at the airport by five hours, although the procedures do not take more than 90 minutes. The Russian side praised the new measures that had been implemented.
Manna was also briefed on the security procedures and precautionary measures, especially the sterilization operations that are carried out on an ongoing basis and applied inside the travel and arrival halls at the airport, as well as procedures for sterilizing bags on the belts and ensuring the application of the highest standards recommended by international health and aviation organizations.
Manna also inspected the airport’s quarantine office and reassured the workflow and ensured that all health and preventive checks were applied to the passengers.
The committee also inspected all security measures and the surveillance camera system inside and outside the airport.
On the other hand, Manna made an extensive inspection tour inside Borg Al Arab International Airport to follow up and assess the security, health and environmental situation at the airport.
The committee also inspected the work accomplished in the construction of the new passenger terminal building No. 2 at Borg Al Arab International Airport, which is being implemented in cooperation with the Japanese company JICA.
The committee also inspected the works of developing and upgrading the efficiency of the main corridor, the networks of rain drainage, torrential drains, and the goods village at Borg Al Arab airport.
The tour began by inspecting the passenger building, travel and arrival halls, baggage belts, station counters and passports, following up on procedures for sterilizing bags and belts in all halls as well as following up on the security measures applied inside and outside the airport walls.
The committee also followed up the application of security and precautionary measures, especially sterilization operations, which are carried out continuously inside the travel and airport terminals to ensure that the highest international standards recommended by international health and aviation organizations are followed.
