Egyptian Minister of Culture Enas Abdel Dayem will witness on Friday the closing session of the 26th Aswan International Sculpture Symposium.

In press statements on Thursday, head of the Cultural Development Fund sector Fathy Abdel-Wahab said this year’s session is exceptional, as it was postponed for several months due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Aswan Governor Ashraf Atia took part in the gathering that paid tribute to late Egyptian artist Adam Hanin for setting up and managing the gathering for more than 25 years. Talented sculpture Nathan Doss carved a granite statue featuring Hanin emerging out of a rock, leaning on an obelisk with a look at the future.

The symposium that kicked off on November 1 is organised by the Ministry of Culture’s Cultural Development Fund Sector, in co-operation with Aswan Governorate.

It was supposed to be held in January, but was put off due to the global pandemic.

The 2021 edition of the symposium witnessed the participation of 12 Egyptian and foreign artists.

The Aswan International Sculpture Symposium is the first and oldest in the Arab region for stone sculpting. The symposium was founded by the Egyptian artist Adam Hanin in 1996 using the famous Aswan granite.
