CAIRO- Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri left here Sunday heading for Barcelona to take part in the 6th Regional Forum of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) that will kick off Monday.
Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ambassador Ahmed Hafez said Shoukri will underscore the importance of the UfM as an institutional framework for regional cooperation in the various spheres including the environment, climate, economic development and digital transformation spheres, along with the importance of exchanging expertise among the UfM member states.
Shoukri will also reiterate Egypt’s commitment to cooperation with UfM member states within the framework of the Union’s adopted strategy, ever since its establishmnent in 2008, he added.
The Forum will bring together the foreign affairs ministers of the 42 UfM member states to discuss regional developments and crises, in addition to the UfM Roadmap adopted in 2017.
The Egyptian minister will also participate in the European Union (EU) Southern Neighborhood Ministerial Meeting to underline Egypt’s commitment to cooperation with the European side, with a view to upping European investments in Egypt and the EU southern neighborhood states, as well as promoting access of exports to European markets, with a view to achieving sustainable development objectives, according to the spokesman.
