CAIRO– Madagascar President Andry Rajoelina asserted that building a digital economy should be a priority in the region in order to interact in the global markets and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) region.
He said, during his participation in the 21st COMESA summit held in the New Administrative Capital, that the impact of the coronavirus resulted in virtual meetings and digital trade as it affected global and African economies.
Rajoelina, who headed the 20th summit of the COMESA, said that institutions and governments resumed their activities and set strategies against COVID-19.
This showed the importance of technology and digital transformation to modify the social, health and educational conditions, he said.
He pointed out to efforts exerted in the COMESA region to make the joint market a reality, adding that the COMESA progressed in the field of free digital trade exchange.
