A man has been arrested in connection with a killing in Ismailiyya, Suez Canal Governorate on Monday.

Footage of the incident is said to have gone viral on social media.

The Ministry of Interior said in a statement that the suspect had attacked a man in a busy street in Ismailia and beheaded him.

The suspect was a former employee at a furniture shopowned by the brother of the slain man.

The motive for the killing was not clear, the statementadded.

The suspect has a history of mental illness and had been previously treated for drug addiction, the statement said.

Two other people were injured in the incident as they tried to subdue the suspect before police arrived.

An investigation into the two injured was underway the statement said.

CCTV needed

Facebook user Maged Wadei denied that the suspect was mentally ill as mentioned on social media.

Wadei urged all Egyptians to watch their children’s behaviour closely.

“All state agencies must unite efforts to consolidate righteous concepts in society,” Wadei said, calling upon civil society organisations to participate in developing swift solutions for this problem.

Another Facebook user said that this heinous crime requires collective collaboration from the National Centre for Social and Criminal Research and other state bodies to deter such offenders.

He said that security apparatus has to take more decisive action on surveillance central areas, with more CCTV inmain squares and streets.

Violent films

Mohamed Ghazala tweeted saying that violent films are to blame for bloody incidents in the streets of Egypt.

“The reason is the blind imitation of the destructive movies and television series, which show our children how to use drugs, lie, cheat and use methods of bullying, murder, betrayal, and theft,” Ghazala said on his twitter account.
