An unexpected royal visitor made it to the Egyptian pavilion at the Dubai Exhibition 2020, widely known as Expo 2020 Dubai, namely the sarcophagus of priest Basmatik bin Uzir.

The sarcophagus will be displayed at the pavilion for the next six months, the Ministry of Industry and Trade said in a statement on Thursday.

An ancient artistic masterpiece, the sarcophagus, still demonstrating its glaring colours, was discovered recently in Saqqara, a sprawling necropolis in close proximity to the Giza Pyramids Plateau.

The central part of the coffin is adorned with offering texts and religious incantations. Its sides are surrounded with two rows of deities holding scepters in their hands.

In the lower part of the sarcophagus, two figures of the god Anubis appear above his cabin in front of the deceased.

The Ministry of Trade and Industry said the visit of the sarcophagus to Expo 2020 Dubai comes within the framework of co-operation between it and the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.
