The Egyptian foreign minister underscored the importance of creating a political horizon and the atmosphere conducive to this process, Foreign Ministry Spokesman, Ambassador Ahmed Hagez, said.

He added that the foreign minister told Foreign Minister Lapid that this had also to be done in a manner that consolidates regional stability help the region avoid tension and unrest.

“Egypt will maintain its unremitting efforts in this regard,” Ambassador Hafez quoted Foreign Minister Shoukry as saying during the phone conversation.

The foreign minister’s talks with the Israeli foreign minister also dwelt on efforts made for supporting Palestinians in the occupied territories in coordination with the Palestinian Authority.

The talks also touched on the needed coordination to relieve the suffering of Palestinians, Ambassador Hafez said.

Later in the day, Foreign Minister Shoukry travelled to New York to participate in the high-level segment of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The foreign minister will also participate in a series of other events to clarify Egypt’s view on a number of regional and international developments and means of strengthening regional and international security and peace, the Foreign Ministry Spokesman said.

Foreign Minister Shoukry will also speak about the required mechanisms for enhancing multilateral action on issues on the agenda of the high-level segment of the General Assembly, he added.

The foreign minister is also expected to meet a host of senior United Nations officials and foreign diplomats to discuss a wide range of regional and international issues as well as bilateral relations, Ambassador Hafez said.
