Under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and within the celebrations for choosing Port Said as the Egyptian capital of Culture, Enas Abdel-Dayem, Minister of Culture, and Major General Adel El-Ghadban, Governor of Port Said, inaugurated the fourth book fair in the governorate and an exhibition of other copies of documents that tell the history of Port Said city.

 

The event was attended by a number of intellectuals, popular leaders in the governorate and members of the House of Representatives and Senate.

 

During the opening, Abdel-Dayem expressed her happiness with the number of intellectual and artistic activities across Egypt and with the great public turnout for them.

 

She added that the culture as a soft power embrace all governorates of Egypt. She added that Port Said is shining with a cultural movement. She explained that the fourth edition of the Port Said Book Fair confirms the ministry’s efforts to spread enlightenment to build personality and reshape the collective conscience.

 

The minister also invited the people of the governorate to visit the exhibition and enjoy the activities, as well as buying books which ranges from only LE1 to LE20.

 

During the inauguration, The Port Said Troupe for Folk Instruments had presented a group of dances and folkloric works that express the artistic nature of the governorate.

 

It is noteworthy that the fourth book fair in Port Said will last for 12 days until September 17, and it will be held on an area of 3,000 square metres and includes 38 exhibition pavilions with the participation of 51 private publishing houses, in addition to 6 sectors of the Ministry of Culture and the Dar Al Maaref Press Foundation.

 

The total area includes an open theatre to present cultural and artistic activities vary between artistic performances by folklore troupes, activities for children, Arab and heritage music, intellectual meetings, poetry evenings and dialogue.

 

As for the exhibition of documents, it includes 16 copies tackling the order of Khedive Ismail to establish a bureau for Port Said Governorate and the role of the people of Port Said in the 1919 Revolution, in addition to the decision to convert the city into a free zone in 1976.
