Egypt’s Minister of Transport Kamel el-Wazir attended on Sunday the graduation ceremony of a large group of railway technicians and operators who had wrapped up their training at an Armed Forces-affiliated educational institute.

The training grouped 1,000 would-be railway workers, including train drivers, conductors, mechanics, maintenance workers, supervisors and booking clerks.

Those graduating included 15 females and five professionals with special needs.

The training and the graduation ceremony are part of the Ministry of Transport’s efforts to improve railway services, safety and efficiency.

Minister el-Wazir congratulated the graduates and asked them to do their best to upgrade the railways in the coming period.

He indicated that the graduation of this group of railway professionals comes within his ministry’s plan for the development and upgrade of the human capital of the railways.

He revealed that the Railways Authority, the national railway operator, would hire 250 engineers, 750 technology experts and 1,500 technicians in all fields in the coming period.

He said these people will work in the operation of the electric rail lines now established in different parts of Egypt.

He noted that his ministry would move ahead with honing the skills of railway workers and upgrading the facility’s human capital on the road to ending its problems and putting it on the right track.
