Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has expressed Egypt’s keenness to enhance co-operation in development, economic and investment fields with Japan, noting that Egypt cherishes close and fruitful relations with Japan.

The president’s remarks came during his meeting on Monday with Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi in the presence of Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri and the Japanese ambassador to Cairo, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said.

At the outset of the meeting, President Sisi welcomed the Japanese foreign minister’s visit to Cairo and expressed congratulations to the friendly people of Japan over the success in hosting the recent Olympic Games.

The president then stressed Egypt’s interest in and keenness to carry co-operation with Japan to wider horizons especially in developmental, economic and investment fields, adding that Egypt is also interested in attracting additional Japanese investments.

In this connection, President Sisi noted the availability of wide opportunities for investment in various sectors in Egypt as well as the good reputation that Japanese companies enjoy with their technological expertise and advanced industrial quality in Egypt.

For his part, the Japanese foreign minister stressed that Japan attaches special importance to its relations with Egypt at the levels of bilateral co-operation and political consultation due to the importance and centrality of the Egyptian role in its regional environment to consolidate stability and peace in the Middle East.
