Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli made an inspection tour saturday of
the Cairo Citadel Aqueduct to review the restoration work of the
medieval structure.

The project, the prime minister said, is part of ongoing efforts by state
authorities to revive historical landmarks in Cairo.

The prime minister added that his government is implementing a plan to
restore ancient buildings and develop squatter areas.

He toured different sites in the project, including a commercial area that
will be established within the restoration project.

Outlets within the area will be allocated for the selling and marketing of
handicrafts, the prime minister said.

The restoration project for the Cairo Citadel Aqueduct includes the
construction of an administrative building and entertainment facilities,
according to Housing Minister Asem el-Jazzar.

He said the project also includes the construction of 70 residential
buildings in the area near the aqueduct, with matching the ancient
architectural style of the area, the minister said.
