Egypt has been able to store 3.4 million litres of oxygen for emergencies.

Steps taken by the Egyptian government to rationalise oxygen consumption and governance of the system have resulted in the transfer of Egyptian expertise to other Arab countries.

These statements by Health Minister Hala Zayed came during the weekly cabinet meeting Wednesday under chairmanship of Prime Ministe Mostafa Madbouli in New el-Alamein City.

Health Minister Hala Zayed reviewed the latest developments related to Covid-19 locally and globally, the delta variant versus other infectious diseases, the World Health Organisation report on the virus and international vaccination targets.

The Minister also touched on the current situation in the supplies of AstraZeneca, Sinovac, Sinopharma, Sputnik and Johnson & Johnson vaccines.

More doses of AstraZeneca and Sinovac vaccines are scheduled to arrive later this month, Zayed said.

Zayed referred to the report by the World Health Organisation saying 29 countries need more oxygen due to the increase in infections, create a shortage in medicines and life-saving equipment.
