TOKYO – Egypt’s national handball team left Tokyo’s Olympic Village on Monday on their way back home after achieving the fourth place in Tokyo Olympic Games for the first time in Egypt’s history, according to MENA.

The team will leave Tokyo airport later in the day to Doha where they will transit for 10 hours before returning home at 6:00 pm on Tuesday.

The Pharaohs lost 33-31 to Spain in the bronze-medal match.

Egypt reached the quarter-finals of the competition as the group’s runner-up with four wins and a single loss against Denmark.

Egypt defeated Germany 31-26 in the quarter-finals after a fantastic display from the Pharaohs to secure a place in the semi-finals for the first time in the nation’s history.

The Pharaohs faced France in the semi-finals but the European superpower had the upper hand to secure a place in the final while the Pharaohs set up a clash with Spain in the bronze-medal match.

The Pharaohs finished the competition in the fourth place after losing to Spain in the third place match.
