An Egyptian film has gained recognition from the highest quarters.

Reesh(Feathers) premiered in Paris last month, winning the Grand Prize of Critics’ Week Grand (Semaine de la Critique), and third prize from the International Federation of Film Critics Award for first feature in parallel sections at the 74thCannes Film Festival.

Culture Minister Inas AbdelDayem said at a special ceremony at the TharwatOkasha Hall of the National Cinema Centre in honour of the film: “This is an historic achievement as it is also Egypt’s first time to participate in the competition.”

Reesh is a 112-minute Arabic-language film, directed by Omar el-Zohairy, that tells the story of a woman, whose life of drudgery is relieved when a magician mistakenly turns her overbearing husband into a chicken.

Producers Mohamed Hefzy and Shahinazel-Akkad, director of photography Kamal Samy and editor Hisham Saqr received honours.

Reesh will premier in Egypt at the 5thGouna Film Festival, slated for 14-22 October.
