Egyptian Minister of Trade and Industry Neveen Gamea announced on Sunday that the African Accreditation Co-operation (AFRAC),
a co-operation of accreditation bodies, renewed its recognition of the National Accreditation Council (NAC) for another four years.

“The renewal of the recognition is of great importance to the industrial community,” she said.

“It is also a fundamental pillar for the promotion of the trade movement between Egypt and all other countries,” she added.

NAC Executive Director Hani el-Desouky said the renewal of the recognition came after the success of the international evaluation and inspection visit to the council by some AFRAC officials between July 11-16.

The officials of the council, he added, sought to ensure that the council observed a quality performance at all levels.

“The visit coincided with the evaluation work carried out by the International Laboratory Accreditation Co-operation (ILAC) and the International Accreditation Forum (IAF),” el-Desouky said.

He said the renewal of the recognition of the NAC for another four years would boost the council’s work as the only accreditation body in Egypt.

Continual support to the council by the Ministry of Trade and Industry motivates its work and encourages it to become one of the leading international bodies in the field of accreditation.

El-Desouky added that the NAC is the only accreditation body in the world that had been recognised by the two international accreditation organisations, ILAC and IAF.

“It is also recognised by three regional accreditation organisations,” he added.
