The head of the Arab Organisation for Industrialisation (AOI) Abdel Moneim el-Terras stressed the importance of partnering with the Electronics Research Institute (ERI) to exchange expertise and support the state’s efforts to increase the percentage of the local component in industry in a bid to reduce imports and localise technology.
El-Terras made these remarks during his meeting on Saturday with acting head of the ERI Sherin Abdel Kader and her accompanying delegation.
El-Terras said AOI has a clear vision to deepen local manufacturing and transfer technology in various fields of industry, including electronics, tablets, laptops, surveillance cameras, and smart meters.
The AOI is engaged in a number of development and infrastructure projects, including the establishment of water desalination plants and wastewater treatment across the country, he said.
El-Terras added that his organisation has launched a number of schemes in renewable energy, railways, transport and converting old fuel-powered cars to the locally manufactured hybrid vehicles.
During the meeting, AOI and ERI discussed entering into partnership in order to benefit from scientific research at the institute.
The two sides agreed to form joint working teams to develop implementation mechanisms at specific schedules, with regard to the manufacture of local goods and components imported from abroad.
El-Terras underscored the importance of strengthening joint co-operation with the Electronics Research Institute and other universities, centres and research bodies nationwide to achieve Egypt’s Vision 2030, which represents a foothold on the way towards inclusive and sustainable development.
