Muslim pilgrims flock to Mecca to perform farewell circumambulation 1 - Egyptian Gazette

Muslim pilgrims, who are in a hurry to conclude the last of hajj rituals, streamed out of Mina valley after they cast pebbles at three pillars representing Satan.

The pilgrims flocked to Mecca where they will perform the farewell circumambulation around the Kaaba on Thursday amid tight precautionary measures to contain the outbreak of coronavirus.

But others, who are not in a hurry, will stay on in Mina until Thursday sunset when they will perform the stoning ritual one final time.

Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam and must be undertaken by all able-bodied Muslims at least once in their lives, if they can afford to.

This year’s gathering is much smaller than usual because of the Covid-19 pandemic, with only 60,000 fully vaccinated citizens and residents of the kingdom allowed to take part.

In normal times, hajj attracts up to 2.5 million Muslims from around the world.
