Egypt and Palestine on Wednesday discussed ways of further propelling bilateral co-operation between the two sides and higher education and scientific research, in particular at the level of scholarships and promoting partnerships between researchers, students and academic cadres in Egyptian and the Palestinian universities.

Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research received the Palestinian Ambassador in Cairo Diab Al-Louh and an accompanying delegation.

Welcoming the delegation, Minister Ashour stressed Cairo’s keenness on supporting Palestine in all fields, as well as bolstering prospects for bilateral co-operation, mainly in higher education and scientific research. He also stressed his ministry’s eagerness to overcome all difficulties and problems facing Palestinian students studying in the Egyptian universities.

Ashour also pointed to the launch of the major initiative Egyptian Initiative for Scholarships and Educational Tourism (EGYAID), with scholarships and residency rights to attract more international students to the country’s universities as part of transforming the country’s higher education institutions into fourth-generation schools.

EGYAID is part of the larger Study in Egypt programme, which seeks to promote Egypt as the preferred study destination for international students.

For his part, the Palestinian envoy commended the distinguished historical fraternal relations binding the two peoples, and highly appreciated Egypt’s leading role at the regional level.

He also pointed to the country’s support to the Palestinian people in all fields. He congratulated the ministry on the launch of the EGYAID initiative.
