Egypt and Jordan on Monday signed some 12 MoU and co-operation programmes aiming to boost bilateral ties in various fields.

The Egyptian Jordanian Joint Higher Committee convened in Amman for its 31st session, that was chaired by Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli and Jordan’s counterpart Bisher Khasawneh

The two sides inked an MoU in the field of drawing up economic and development policies, and exchanging planning expertise between Egypt’s Ministry of Planning and Economic Development and the Jordanian Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation. Egyptian Minister Halaal-Saeed signed the MoU with Jordanian Zina Touqan. A second MoU was also signed between the Egyptian Financial Supervisory Authority and the Jordanian and the Securities Commission.

Minister Mashat and Jordan’s Minister of Governmnet Communications Faisal Shboul signed a co-operation programme between the Egyptian Middle East News Agency (MENA) and the Jordanian News Agency (Petra).

Other MoUs and executive programmes signed by the conclusion of the committee’s 31st session covering cultural, vocational training and manpower cooperation.

Other MoUs were singed on Monday between the ministries of health in Egypt and Jordan, the Egyptian National Authority for Social Insurance, and Jordan’s Jordan Social Security Corporation, and the ministries of Awqaf in both countries.

At the onset of the session, Madbouli stressed President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s aspirations that the meetings would reach tangible outcome, that can contribute to bilateral ties in line with his vision and that of Jordanian King Abdullah II. He also referred to directives by the political leadership on both countries on further bolstering bilateral ties.

The 31st session of the Egyptian Jordanian Joint Higher Committee comes amid rising challenges, both at the regional and international levels, Madbouli said, noting that the Egyptian government believes that there are broad prospects for bolstering bilateral relations, mainly in trade and investment, considering the expansion and development of the Egyptian ports on the Mediterranean and Red Seas, as well as the road network among them.

In the meantime, Premier Madbouli noted that the regional dimension remain essential in the cooperation between Egypt and Jordan. He said that the tripartite mechanism, grouping the two countries with Iraq, offers a model which comprising promising opportunities.
