Egyptian Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said his ministry seeks to unify efforts with the world community to eradicate Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) by 2030 in accordance with the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and World Health Organization Goals to ensure welfare and prosperity to all.
Abdel Ghaffar was speaking in a televised address to a meeting of the Geneva-based WHO on Saturday to mark celebrations of the World Hepatitis Day.
World Hepatitis Day, recognized annually on July 28, provides an opportunity to raise awareness of the global burden of viral hepatitis.
The minister said that Egypt achieved great success in a span of the past few years regarding the eradication of HCV that was the main cause of the death of nearly 40,000 to 50,000 persons annually.
Egypt has devised a multifaceted plan with the participation of all bodies and sectors concerned for prevention and treatment of this disease, he added.
