Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Monday expressed Egypt’s solidarity with the Sudanese people to overcome their crisis.
Foreign ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said in a tweet that Shoukry’s statements to this effect came during a virtual conference to support humanitarian response for Sudan and the region which is organized jointly by Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Germany, the United Nations and the European Union.
Shoukry said Egypt spares no effort to enable the Sudanese people to live a decent life in a stable and secure state.
He said that Egypt offered 300,000 tons of urgent medical and food supplies to Sudan and evacuated 10,000 foreigners working in diplomatic missions and international organizations in Sudan.
The foreign minister also said that Egypt received nearly 150,000 Sudanese refugees (about 60 percent of those who fled the fighting in the east African Arab country).
