The Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) on Tuesday announced the launch of the e-Tadweer electronic platform for the management and recycling of solid and electronic waste for industrial facilities within the zone.

The zone also launched the Environmental Pollution Abatement Programme (EPAP) to fund efforts by developers and factory owners to reduce pollution.

SCZone chairman Waleed Gamal Eddin said: “The zone pays great attention to the transition to the green economy in implementing the environment aspect of its plan.”

“The SCZone is developing East Port Said Port, which it is operating as the zone’s first green port. In Sokhna industrial zone are projects using environmental solutions, adhering to environmental standards. The projects also respond to the results of environmental impact measurement studies conducted by the SCZone,” Gamal Eddin said during the official visit by Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad to Sokhna.

The purpose of the minister’s visit was to discuss activating the co-operation protocol signed last April between SCZone and the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA).

During the visit, representatives of industrial developers and investors in Sokhna and East Port Said zones were informed of the objectives of the protocol and how their businesses can conform to international environmental standards to reduce carbon emissions in some industries.

For her part, the minister said: “I invite SCZone investors to participate in the Environmental Investment Conference that will at the end of July under the auspices of the Egyptian Prime Minister Dr Moustafa Madbouly, with wide international participation from all concerned parties.”

“The conference will explore investment opportunities in the fields of environment and climate, and review success stories in environment investment, especially those achieved by the SCZone in green ports and affiliated industrial zones,” the minister added.

The meeting was followed by an inspection tour by the Environment Minister, accompanied by SCZone officials, to Egypt Green Hydrogen, the first green fuel project in Sokhna zone.

The minister then moved on to Ateco Pharma factory, which uses the most up-to-date technologies and in accordance with international environmental standards.
