Egyptian Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation El Sayyed El Quseir held talks with Special Representative of FAO’s Director-General Daniel Gustafson on joint projects between the two sides.
During the meeting, that was held in Rome, El Qusier praised co-operation between the Ministry and FAO especially the launching of the Food and Agriculture for Sustainable Transformation (FAST) initiative during the UN Climate Conference (COP27) held in Sharm El Sheikh in November.
The two sides probed the necessary support the initiative needs to be placed on priorities of the upcoming UN Climate Conference (COP28) to be hosted by the United Arab Emirates.
The minister also underlined the need for co-operation with FAO over the early warning systems and mechanisms for assessing losses caused by the climate change.
FAO’s representative, for his part asserted that the importance of Egypt in the organisation’s work since the establishment of its regional office in Cairo in 1974, praising the vital role played by the Egyptian Agriculture.
