The Egyptian Embassy in Belgrade in cooperation with the Serbian flag carrier, Air Serbia, celebrated on Saturday inaugural flights between Belgrade and Cairo after a three-year hiatus.

The first direct flights are to begin on May 15 with three flights per week.

Ahmed Ali, who is Director General of the Foreign Offices of the Egyptian Tourism Promotion Board (ETPB), Egypt’s Ambassador to Belgrade Basil Salah attended the ceremony.

From June to September, a leading Serbian tour operator will organise a series of trips to Marsa Matrouh, a resort town on Egypt’s Mediterranean coast, a statement by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities said.

In Belgrade, Ali met with Secretary of State in the Ministry of Trade, Tourism, and Telecommunications Uros Kandić to discuss cooperation and a proposal for exchange visits at government level and the private sector from the start of Cairo-Belgrade flights, the statement added.

Ali also held a meeting with Director of the National Association of Tourism Agencies (YUTA) Alexander Seničić to discuss Egypt’s proposal to host the annual meeting of the association in one of the Egyptian tourist cities.

Ali and CEO of Air Serbia Jiří Marek discussed joint advertising campaigns and inviting celebrities, influencers, bloggers and media professionals to visit Egypt.

Egypt aims to increase tourist numbers to 30 million annually by 2028.
