Egypt’s Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala al Said on Monday discussed with United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLG Africa) Secretary General Jean Pierre Elong Mbassi prospects of cooperation in the domains of maintaining the sustainability of economic and urban development.

Said and Mbassi discussed the updates of “Decent Life for Climate Resilient Africa” initiative which was launched by Egypt on the margins of Agriculture and Adaptation Day at the 27th UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh in November.

Minister Said underlined the key role of UCLG Africa in transferring Egypt’s expertise as regards its successful initiative “Decent Life” to the African countries adopting “Decent Life for Climate Resilient Africa” initiative, which aims at improving the quality of life by 30% in the most needy and vulnerable villages due to the climate changes, by the year 2023.

Also, the initiative is meant to promote the efforts of climate resilience as well accelerating putting into effect the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) plan, the minister said.

Meanwhile, UCLG Africa chief expressed eagerness to tap into Egypt’s “Decent Life” initiative, in line with the goals of Africa’s Agenda 2063.

The meeting tackled the latest updates regarding hosting the 10th World Summit of UCLG Africa by Egypt in the year 2025.
